Thanks to my mom's suggestion of roasted chicken, I've decided to... roast a chicken. I'm going to make a compound butter with shallots, garlic, thyme and rosemary and rub it under the skin, and stuff the cavity with lemons and moar shallots. I'm also making roasted winter veg (potatoes, carrots, and baby beets) and a green salad. For dessert, there's going to be baked figs with cinnamon and honey (thanks [livejournal.com profile] taldragon!) with Chantilly cream on the side. I got a rosemary and sea salt focaccia loaf from the bakery that sells on the market stall. After that, given that I got unwaxed lemons, there may be some experimentation with cocktails, of some sort.

(One more squeeful bit about this meal - except for the figs and the lemons and the vanilla, everything involved came from within 100 miles or so of here. Well, I don't know about the brandy actually. Probably not.)

(Also, [profile] jabber's suggestion for what I should do with them was a close runner-up.)

So, they delivered my box about 5 PM today. I got -

4 teeeny potatoes
Half a dozen smallish red onions
3 small sweet potatoes
An enormous lettuce
Two nice big slicing tomatoes
Two crowns of broccoli
Five apples
A bag of spinach

This was all local produce (the farthest away was from Granby), and everything was organic except for the apples, which were IPM. $25 for the box, which I think is a pretty good price.

I also added on a dozen eggs from Diemand Farm (the farm my mother used to get eggs from), a loaf of whole grain bread from a local bakery, and a fresh herb bouquet. The herbs small amazing, and it's an enormous bunch for $3. It has rosemary, sage, thyme, parsley, cilantro, and some dill.

Overall, I'm pretty impressed. I think I'll keep going with it.
