Dear British scriptwriters:

No matter how convicing a Midwestern an accent a character manages to mimic, Americans do not say "messed about". We just don't, not ever. Not even I do, and I've got buckets and buckets of dialect shift due to decades of association with furriners. Try "screwed around."
